David de Gea in talks to join Genoa on a free transfer
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is in advanced talks to join Serie A club Genoa on a free transfer. The 33-year-old Spaniard has been a free agent since leaving United last summer, following a failure to agree on a contract extension.

After a year-long hiatus from competitive football, during which De Gea trained independently and explored various options, he is now poised for a return to the pitch. De Gea received multiple offers, including potential moves to clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Italy, but appears to have favored Genoa.

De Gea's illustrious career at Manchester United spanned 12 years, during which he made 545 appearances and set a club record for clean sheets previously held by Peter Schmeichel. He also became the goalkeeper with the highest number of appearances in the club's history. His last match for United was in the 2023 FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Throughout his time in England, De Gea won five major trophies, including the Premier League title in 2013, the FA Cup in 2016, and the Europa League in 2017. On the international stage, he has earned 45 caps for Spain, though he hasn't played for his national team since 2020.

Genoa, which begins its new Serie A season against defending champions Inter Milan on August 17, sees De Gea as a significant addition to their squad. His experience and skill are expected to bolster their defensive lineup as they compete in the top tier of Italian football.
