Lee Carsley Set for Interim England Manager Role

Lee Carsley is expected to step in as the interim manager for the England men's national team for their upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland. This decision follows Gareth Southgate's resignation after England's defeat in the 2024 Euros final against Spain. Carsley previously led England's Under-21 team to victory in the 2023 European Championship, marking their first win in 39 years.
The transition from the Under-21s to a caretaker role for the senior team is a familiar path, previously taken by figures such as Howard Wilkinson, Stuart Pearce, and Southgate himself. While the Football Association is actively searching for Southgate's permanent replacement, they have yet to comment on the ongoing process, though they indicated having an interim solution ready.
Carsley, who enjoyed a 17-year playing career with clubs like Derby County and Everton, has managerial experience with Coventry, Brentford, and Birmingham in caretaker capacities. He joined the England coaching setup in 2020, and his experience and recent success with the Under-21s make him a suitable choice for this interim role.
