Luke Shaw Sidelined for Premier League Start Due to Injury

Luke Shaw, Manchester United's left-back, is set to miss the beginning of the Premier League season after suffering a calf injury during pre-season training. This setback continues a challenging period for Shaw, who has struggled with injuries, limiting him to just 15 appearances in the previous season. His absence will be felt as United faces Fulham, Brighton, and Liverpool in their opening fixtures.
With Tyrell Malacia also out until October, United's manager Erik ten Hag faces a shortage of specialist left-backs. In the recent Community Shield match against Manchester City, ten Hag utilized players out of position, including Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot, to cover the left-back spot. Additionally, Noussair Mazraoui, typically a right-back, and promising teenager Harry Amass might be considered as temporary solutions.
Shaw's injury also impacts England's national team selection, as he is unlikely to be fit for the upcoming matches against the Republic of Ireland and Greece. Meanwhile, Manchester United will also begin their league campaign without the injured duo of Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund, highlighting the injury challenges the squad faces early in the season.
