Reus: "It was very clear to me that I didn’t want to stay in the Bundesliga."
Former Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus has joined LA Galaxy and gave an interview to Sky Sports Germany. In the interview, Reus stated that he didn’t want to stay in the Bundesliga and chose to transfer to the United States to experience a different lifestyle. He expressed his satisfaction with the environment and atmosphere at LA Galaxy.

About the Lucky Charm He Received from His Daughter
Reus: "My daughter made me a beautiful bracelet. I have been wearing it ever since she made it, and it makes me very happy. I look forward to having her by my side."
On Why He Transferred to the U.S.
Reus: "For me, it was very clear that I definitely didn’t want to stay in the Bundesliga. Europe was also not an option for me because I wanted to try something completely different at the end of my career. A change in language, a change in the family environment. Simply put, I wanted the chance to be seen in a different place, continue learning, and gain a different perspective. My connection with LA Galaxy was established very early, and I liked it right from the start—not just the content of our conversations, but also the surroundings. Living here isn’t bad; there’s a lot to do, and that was an important factor in my decision to come here. So, I decided early on that I wanted to come here and continue playing football."
On the Predecessors at LA, Beckham, Ibrahimović, and Gerrard
Reus: "It makes me proud. These three have made incredible contributions in the past and then shone brightly here as well. That is also my goal. I hope to win a championship here with the team."
On a Possible Connection with Messi
Reus: "He hasn’t sent me any messages. I doubt I’ll receive one from him, but it’s nice to face him again in this league. I’ve had the chance two or three times, whether at the club level or on the national team, to compete against him. I think every good player who comes to MLS is good for the league itself. It attracts more attention and helps people better understand the sport because soccer isn’t the number one sport here. But I think overall, MLS is moving in a very good direction. More and more people are getting into soccer, making the sport more popular. Every player who has played at a high level in Europe coming here will benefit the league. We hope to have more players like that joining."
On What He Will Miss About the Bundesliga and Germany
Reus: "I will especially miss the Dortmund stadium. When you’re used to playing every other weekend, or sometimes even more frequently, in front of 80,000 fans, that feeling is something you’ll never forget because no stadium in the world is as lively or attracts as many fans as here. In the Bundesliga, even at away games, you always feel the support of many spectators; you have your fans everywhere. I don’t know if it will be the same here, but it will be a new experience. And also football itself. You get used to how football is played, and of course, the Bundesliga is constantly evolving. There are also those outstanding stadiums and fans; few clubs in the world receive such great support."
On His Former Teammates at Dortmund
Reus: "Of course, I wish them all the best. I know everyone there, though there are some new faces. So, I particularly hope they stay healthy, stay positive, have a good start to the season, and have something to celebrate at the end of it. Despite the big time difference, I will definitely keep an eye on their match times—that’s for sure."
