Roberto Martinez: Cristiano Ronaldo is truly incredible

After leading the team to a 2-1 comeback victory over Scotland in the second round of the UEFA Nations League group stage, Portugal national team coach Roberto Martínez gave an interview to Portuguese Radio and Television.

Roberto Martinez said: "Cristiano is in great form right now. It's September, and he has already played three matches (actually four) for his club and scored in all of them. We need to protect all of our players, and Cristiano cannot play two full 90-minute matches. He needs to finish the game on the pitch, not start from the beginning. I like his commitment."

"Dependence? He’s an incredible player, but we don’t depend on him. He’s an asset, and his ability in front of goal is crucial, as is his intelligence in creating space."

"For us, this is a very important victory. We won a tough match, and Scotland's defensive intensity was very high, so I’m very pleased. Quarterfinals? We want to win every match.
