Arsenal Faces Injury Concerns Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concern over the injury sustained by defender Riccardo Calafiori during the Gunners' recent 1-0 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk. The Italian defender, who joined the club from Bologna in a deal worth up to £42 million, was forced to leave the pitch in the second half after twisting his right knee. This injury comes at a challenging time for Arsenal, who are already missing key players like Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, along with defender Jurrien Timber.

Arteta described Calafiori's situation as "a bit of a worry," noting the impact his absence could have on the team as they prepare to face league leaders Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. In the match against Shakhtar, Calafiori was instrumental, completing 42 passes from his left-back position before his injury led to the introduction of youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly. Former Chelsea forward Chris Sutton emphasized that losing Calafiori would be a significant blow for Arsenal, especially considering the intense schedule and the pressure of competing against top teams.

As Arsenal navigates a packed fixture list with seven matches in 23 days, Arteta remains optimistic about his team's performance against Liverpool. He acknowledged the fatigue players might feel after international duties but expressed confidence that they would be ready for the challenge. Meanwhile, former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson pointed out that while the team managed to secure wins, they need to improve their overall performance to keep pace with rivals like Liverpool and Manchester City. With injuries piling up, Arsenal will need to find solutions quickly to maintain their competitive edge.
