Maresca discussed his views on players
Chelsea will face Manchester United away in the 10th round of the Premier League. Ahead of the match, Maresca discussed his views on players like van Nistelrooy and Enzo, as well as some current issues within the team at a press conference.
Manchester United just announced the appointment of Amorim as head coach. What are your thoughts on this?
"First of all, I wish him all the best. If their leadership made this decision, it’s because they believe it’s the right one. So I wish him and Manchester United success."
Have you spoken with van Nistelrooy?
"I haven't spoken to him yet. Before the match on Sunday, I'll give him a big hug. We expect a tough game."
What memories do you have of playing with him at Málaga?
"First and foremost, he's a fantastic person—very humble and professional. Unfortunately, when I was with him, he wasn’t at his peak anymore (laughs), but even then, you could still see his quality. We had a very good team at Málaga, so it’s always nice to look back on those times."
Chelsea hasn’t won at Old Trafford in over a decade. Is this a good time to beat them?
"Since 2013? I hope this is the right time. It just shows how tough it is to play at that stadium, not just for us but for any club."
How is the team’s condition?
"Everyone except Sancho is available, as he's been sick in recent days."
Did you sacrifice the League Cup match to focus on winning at Old Trafford?
"No, we wanted to win against Newcastle. Unfortunately, we lost, but we approach every match with the aim to win. We rotated not because we have an 'A team' or 'B team'—we’re one team."
"The only reason is that everyone deserves a chance. Some players play in the Premier League, others in the Conference League or League Cup, but in one or two matches, this can change, and those playing in the League Cup or Conference League can also play in the Premier League."
"We have 24 or 25 outfield players; we are one team, with one squad, and we work hard to give everyone playing time."
