Buchanan, Recently Recovered from Injury, Discusses His Experience with Inter Milan and the Canadian National Team in an Interview with Goal.com

How did you feel on your first day joining Inter?
"That was one of those awe-inspiring moments in life. Walking into a locker room full of such powerful players, I had to hold my breath—it’s been a dream of mine. Coming here from Brampton and now playing for a team like Inter is something truly special," Buchanan said.
How’s your Italian?
"I’m working hard to learn Italian—it’s tough! (laughs) Hopefully, I can improve soon."
Who has helped you the most in integrating with the team?
"Many people, but of course, Thuram stands out—his English is very good."
What changes have come about since March became head coach of the Canadian national team?
"Big changes. We achieved good results in the Copa America, and he’s aiming to elevate us to an even higher level. It’s great for the national team, and he’s leading us in the right direction. I’m very grateful to play under him."
What’s your favorite position with the Canadian national team?
"As a winger in a 4-3-3 formation. That’s my natural position, where I can contribute in the attacking third."
What’s your relationship with Alphonso Davies on and off the field?
"Our whole team is very close-knit, and that’s especially true with Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David. This connection is visible on the field. We’ve proven it and hope to improve as a team in the coming months."
Can you describe your first goal for Inter?
"It was a thrilling moment, a dream come true. It happened very quickly, and I was incredibly happy."

"Yes, that’s true."
How did it feel facing Argentina and Messi in the Copa America? Were you intimidated?
"We faced Argentina in the opening match (before the semifinals), so we knew what kind of team they were. They’re the best in the world with the best player. We showed resilience in those games and earned respect."
What was different about playing Argentina twice in the Copa America?
"I was injured then, so it was a tough time for me, but the team showcased our strengths."
Tell us about your injury.
"It was a tough moment; everything happened so quickly. I remember looking at my leg and realizing immediately it was a serious injury. I had the full support of the team, and many people messaged me, which I deeply appreciated. Injuries are part of soccer, and unfortunately, it happened. But now I’m back stronger and ready to show my true potential. I want to step forward, show my skills, and contribute with goals and assists. Overall, I want to make an impact."
What did playing in the World Cup mean to you?
"It was a dream. I don’t think people can truly understand how amazing it is. I just wanted to show my ability as a player and the strength of the Canadian national team."
What’s your best memory from the Qatar World Cup?
"The assist to Alphonso [Davies]—that was Canada’s first goal in World Cup history."
