A.J. Dybantsa Commits to BYU as Projected Top NBA Draft Pick

A.J. Dybantsa, a highly touted 6-foot-9 wing player, has officially committed to Brigham Young University (BYU), solidifying his place as the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2025 and a projected top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Announcing his decision on ESPN’s "First Take," Dybantsa chose BYU over notable programs such as Alabama, North Carolina, and Kansas. His commitment marks a significant achievement for the Cougars, as he becomes their first five-star recruit since the ESPN recruiting database began in 2007.

Dybantsa highlighted the strong NBA connections within BYU's coaching staff as a key factor in his decision. He expressed admiration for head coach Kevin Young, noting that Young's previous experiences with NBA stars like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker played a role in his commitment. Dybantsa signed with BYU during the early signing period but only made his decision public recently. The relationship built between Dybantsa and Young, who made personal visits to Dybantsa’s family during his time with the Phoenix Suns, was instrumental in the recruitment process.

Known for his scoring prowess, Dybantsa has consistently showcased his talent throughout his high school career, earning accolades such as Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year. His impressive performances for USA Basketball, including gold medals at international competitions, further cement his status as a top prospect. With his commitment to BYU, Dybantsa aims to develop into an NBA-ready player while helping the Cougars become nationally competitive, setting his sights on a potential national championship during his time in Provo.
