Tottenham survived two costly errors by substitute goalkeeper Frasier Forster on Thursday to beat Manchester United 4-3 and set up a League Cup semi-final against Liverpool, staying on course for their first trophy since 2008. The hosts were 3-0 up in the 54th minute of a thrilling encounter in London after two goals from Dominic Solanke and one from Dejan Kulusevski. But Forster's error allowed substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Amad Diallo to make it 3-2 with 20 minutes remaining.

It was one-way traffic after that, with United leading all but Spurs scored a fourth when Son Heung-min slotted home from a corner and they held on despite a late Johnny Evans goal.
Tottenham will face Premier League leaders Liverpool in a two-legged semi-final, with Arsenal facing Newcastle.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said his injury-hit side had inflicted pain on themselves but passionately defended their gung-ho approach.
“It should be a lot more comfortable there, but even so, I still can't deny that this group of players have done a fantastic job at the moment to help us get through this,” he said.

The Australian added: “I know people will say, ‘Well, don’t take risks’ and things like that, but we’re not going to score four goals and five goals.
“Scoring goals is the hardest thing to do in the game, and we did it with the minimum requirements.”
Tottenham, 10th in the Premier League, have not won a trophy for 16 years, when they won the League Cup under Juande Ramos.
But they are one step away from the final at Wembley in March, and Postecoglou is still on course to live up to his bold claim that he is still winning trophies in his second season at a club.

New United boss Ruben Amorim came back down to earth after his side's dramatic 2-1 Premier League win at Manchester City on Sunday.
Amorim made five changes from the team that beat City while Spurs had six academy players on the bench.
Marcus Rashford was left out of the United squad for the second game in a row, but Alexander Garnacho was also absent on Sunday, being on the bench and coming on in the second half.

Solanke doubles down
Tottenham opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Solanke reacted quickest to fire past United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Andrew Onan parried a long-range shot into his path.
Kulusevski doubled Tottenham's lead moments after the restart, and finished with a precise finish before Lysander Martinez failed to deal with a James Maddison cutback, only managing to deflect the ball into the path of the Sweden international.
Spurs were 3-0 up when Solanke raced onto a long ball, skipped past Martinez and Evans and finished with confidence.
But control turned to chaos after the hour mark following a colossal error by goalkeeper Forster, replacing the injured Guglielmo Vicario.
Forster, dropping in on Zirkzee, headed straight for Bruno Fernandes, whose ball was met by Zirkzee and the Dutchman slotted the ball into an empty net in the 63rd minute.

Minutes later, United struck again when Forster hesitated after receiving a back pass.
Diallo closed it down quickly and slipped in as Forster tried to clear, the ball hitting Diallo and ending up in the net.
United had further chances, but Son gave Tottenham the lead in the 88th minute.

United had time to find another goal though, with Evans heading in from a corner, but they ran out of time.
“We weren’t the better team throughout the game, but overall I think we were the better team,” Amorim said.
"I think we were disconnected for eight minutes. It's very difficult to forget that, but then the boys did a good job."
