Sudan eliminated Tanzania in the previous round of the African Nations Championship qualifiers after a penalty shootout (1-1 on aggregate) in early November.
Following that, they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Niger in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, then played out a goalless draw against Angola a few days later.
Sudan claimed a 2-0 victory in the first tie against Ethiopia last weekend and got very close to qualifying to the African Nations Championship. Yasir Mozamil broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, Musa Kanti doubled the lead in stoppage time.
Ethiopia Form
Ethiopia were scheduled to face Eritrea in the previous round of the African Nations Championship qualifiers, but their opponents withdrew from the competition.
After a 2-0 loss to Tanzania in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in mid-November, Ethiopia pulled off a major upset by defeating Congo DR 2-1 just days later, with Bereket Desta and Mohammednur Nasir finding the net.
They struggled in the 1st leg of their African Nations Championship qualifiers against Sudan, suffering a 2-0 home defeat last weekend.
Sudan beat Tanzania 6:5 on penalties to book a place in the second round, while Ethiopia qualified automatically following Eritrea’s last minute withdrawal from CHAN.
Wednesday's game at Martyrs of February is the second meeting between Sudan and Ethiopia in just over two days. The first leg of this second-round tie was played at this same venue, with Sudan going home with the advantage after a 2:0 win. A draw will see the Falcons of Jediane book their place in the AFON Champions for the second year running, but one thing that will worry their fans is that they finished the last edition with just one win.
Ethiopia are also looking to make their second consecutive appearance at the African Nations Championship. The Walia failed to win all three of their matches at the last edition, losing two and drawing one. They also failed to score in two encounters, and their current form in front of goal is very poor.
Prediciton: Under 2.5 goals
Wednesday’s game will be the first meeting between Sudan and Ethiopia in the African Nations Championship in over two years. That encounter ended in a 2-0 win for Sudan and the previous two encounters between the two nations also ended with under two goals.
