All three clubs that were promoted last season are now battling for survival in . This is not just a typical scenario for Italian football but a common one across most European top divisions. The more the game turns into a commercial enterprise, the fewer chances small teams have to fight for something significant. However, I do not believe that "Parma" will find itself among the teams relegated at the end of the season. There are several compelling reasons for this. First, "Parma" has a very decent selection of players for an outsider. They should essentially be contending for a mid-table position. Second, "Parma" is capable of spending considerable amounts to strengthen their squad. Last summer, the club invested nearly 34 million euros on transfers! Given such financial and personnel capabilities, it would be surprising for them to struggle for survival. Therefore, I am confident that in the upcoming matches, "Parma" will start winning again, especially if the coach can rely on the players who are currently in the treatment room.
Monza
The appointment of Salvatore Boccetti as head coach of "Monza" has raised many questions in Italy. The 38-year-old Boccetti is not the typical case of a young specialist who worked as an assistant under a well-known and experienced coach before deciding to strike out on his own. Salvatore has already had a rather unpleasant experience as a head coach. On October 13, 2022, he was appointed as head coach of "Verona," replacing Gabriele Cioffi. At the time of his appointment, Boccetti did not possess a UEFA Pro license, which forced "Verona" to approach the Italian Football Federation for a temporary permit, granted for a duration of 30 days. He officially managed "Verona" as head coach for six games, all of which ended in defeat.
Following such a disastrous run, on December 3, 2022, after the expiry of his temporary coaching permit with "Gialloblu," "Verona" announced the hiring of Marco D’Aversa as the new head coach, appointing Boccetti as his assistant. He did eventually leave "Verona," but not until the end of the season when the team avoided relegation, winning the playoff for a place in Serie A.
It seemed that after such a debut in Serie A, Salvatore had only one way to go – down to the lower divisions to prove his professionalism and coaching talent. How surprising it is that on December 23, 2024, Boccetti signed a contract as the new head coach of Serie A club "Monza," replacing Alessandro Nesta. Even more astonishing, in my opinion, is that Salvatore signed a contract until June 30, 2027! This suggests that "Monza" views him not just as a temporary option, but is confident in long-term collaboration. For some reason, it seems to me that this is a mistake on the part of the club’s management. "Monza" is the worst club in Serie A. They are not only at the bottom of the league table but have also won just once in 17 matches. It is hard to imagine that such an inexperienced coach can perform miracles and lift "Monza" out of the relegation zone, or at least elevate them from last place.
