Exeter City
Heading into the fourth round, Exeter are in dismal form. Under Gary Caldwell, the team has lost five of their last six league matches, managing to earn just one point - the worst record in the third division during this period. Moreover, Exeter conceded a staggering thirteen goals in their last three matches, including a heavy 1-4 defeat to Stevenage in their most recent outing.
Home advantage has not been kind to the "Grecians" either. In their last nine games at St. James Park, they suffered five defeats with only two wins, conceding a total of 23 goals.
Currently sitting 18th in their division, Exeter are only six points clear of the relegation zone, and given their recent run of poor results, they are in real danger of dropping down a tier.
Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest proved that their previous 0-5 defeat against Bournemouth was merely an unfortunate blip. In their following match, the "Tricky Trees" annihilated Brighton 7-0, reaffirming the validity of their position in third place in the Premier League table. Overall, Forest have claimed nine victories in their last eleven matches across all competitions, highlighting their stability and excellent form.
Against a significantly weaker opponent currently struggling, one would expect Nuno Espírito Santo's side to produce an entertaining and high-scoring match.
However, with a challenging away trip to London looming against Fulham just days later, it is likely that the Forest manager will rest some of his key players to avoid injuries and preserve their energy for the crucial league fixture.
Consequently, those who rarely see action, including Taiwo Awoniyi, who has only found the net once this season, will seize their long-awaited opportunity to shine. Nuno recently expressed public support for the Nigerian forward, stating that he will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the team’s success this season.
Exeter City possible starting lineup:
Whitworth; Fitzwater, Hartridge, Francis; McMillan, Woods, Richards, Harper; Mitchell, Watts; Magennis
Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup:
Miguel; Boly, Toffolo, Morato; Da Silva Moreira, Yates, Sangare, Moreno; Jota, Sosa; Awoniyi
Exeter City vs Nottingham Forest Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
Tuesday's game will mark just the fifth meeting between Exeter and Forest, with the visitors going unbeaten in all four of their previous matchups.
The two teams last faced off league clash back in April 1951 which saw the Reds run out 5-0 winners.
Exeter last appeared in the FA Cup fourth round in the 1980-81 campaign.
Forest have the third-best defensive record in the English top flight this season, a goal concession tally of 27.
Prediction: Exeter City 0-2 Nottingham Forest
Even without the likes of Wood and Hudson-Odoi, it is difficult to see Exeter posing much of a challenge to Nottingham Forest's exceptional defence. Additionally, the hosts have been frail at the back in recent weeks, and they are unlikely to get back into the game should they concede first.
