Ajax recovered from three consecutive Europa League losses and beat Galatasaray 2-1 at home to reach the play-offs. The Dutch side followed that win with a 2-0 first-leg play-off victory at Union Saint-Gilloise.
The Galatasaray triumph in January sparked Ajax’s current five-match winning streak. They also beat Feyenoord 2-1 at home and Fortuna Sittard and Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0.
Francesco Farioli’s side sealed a sixth consecutive home win on Sunday, thrashing Heracles 4-0. Mike Godts, Brian Brobbey, Oliver Valaker Edvardsen and Davy Klaassen scored to cap a dominant display.
Defenders Youri Baas, Ahmetcan Kaplan and Owen Wijndal are set to miss out through injury.
Midfield trio Youri Regeer, Kenneth Taylor and Branco van den Boomen are unavailable due to injury.
Striker Wout Weghorst is also injured and won’t make the squad.
Union Saint-Gilloise Form
Union Saint-Gilloise ended their Europa League group stage with three wins and one defeat from four. They were unable to keep the decent form going after a 2-0 home loss to Ajax in the play-off first leg.
Les Unionistes have lost three of their previous five in all competitions, with two defeats in the Europa League. Sébastien Pocognoli’s team finished the UEL group stage with a 2-1 loss at Rangers before the Ajax defeat.
The Belgian side suffered another defeat last time out, losing 1-0 at home against Mechelen. Union Saint-Gilloise conceded before half time and couldn’t find an equaliser with 19 shots and nine on target.

Union SG must try and take the game to Ajax if they are to have any chance of progressing to the last 16. However, the hosts are enjoying a strong run of form and even though they are missing a few players through injury, they will be regarded as favourites to come out on top in the second leg and advance on aggregate.
