Viktor Gyokeres Open to Arsenal Move as Negotiations Begin

Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly open to the idea of joining Arsenal in the summer, with the Gunners set to initiate talks with Sporting Lisbon. The club sees the Swedish striker as a more feasible option than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak for bolstering their attack.

Gyokeres is said to be impressed by Arsenal’s vision for the future. After making a £16.7 million move from Coventry City to Sporting Lisbon in 2023, the 26-year-old has been in outstanding form, scoring 86 goals in 93 appearances, including a remarkable hat-trick against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

Manager Mikel Arteta views Gyokeres as a top candidate to lead Arsenal’s attack next season, given his current goal-scoring form. His recent performances, such as scoring a stunning panenka penalty in a Portuguese Cup semi-final win over Rio Ave, have only added to his appeal.

While Arsenal is the frontrunner, they face competition for Gyokeres, with Manchester United also showing interest. The striker has been a key player for Sporting under coach Ruben Amorim, who moved to Old Trafford in November.

Arsenal has struggled with injuries to key players like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus, which has led Arteta to seek additional offensive options.
