MeesHilgers Injured Again as FC Twente Draws with Fortuna Sittard
FC Twente's defense took a major hit during their Eredivisie match against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday, April 5, 2025, when key defender MeesHilgers, also a member of Indonesia's national team, had to leave the field due to health concerns.

The match started well for Twente, as they led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a penalty by SemSteijn in the 27th minute. However, their momentum faltered in the second half when Hilgers suddenly collapsed on the field in the 70th minute, visibly in pain. Coach Joseph Oosting substituted him for Max Bruns shortly after. As Hilgers left the pitch, he appeared nauseous and almost vomited, raising further concerns about his condition.
Twente's lead was undone after Hilgers' exit, as Fortuna Sittard equalized in injury time through Rodrigo Guth, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
At the time of writing, Twente has not released an official update on Hilgers' injury, but there are fears that the 23-year-old defender may have suffered a recurrence of a recent injury. Hilgers had previously been sidelined with a groin injury while playing for Indonesia against Australia in World Cup qualifiers on March 20, 2025. After that match, Indonesia's coach, Patrick Kluivert, decided to send him back to the Netherlands to recover.
Hilgers missed Indonesia's crucial win over Bahrain five days later but returned to play a full match for Twente against Heracles shortly afterward, a decision that now raises questions. His ongoing health issues are becoming a serious concern for both Twente and Indonesia, and if his condition proves to be severe, his absence could be a significant loss in upcoming crucial fixtures.
