Small Yet Mighty: John Pigai Shines as the Key Player for PSBS Biak in Liga 1

PSBS Biak, a newly promoted team in BRI Liga 1, has been making waves by securing a mid-table spot following their victory in the PegadaianLiga 2 2023-24. The team's impressive performance can largely be attributed to their goalkeeper, John Pigai.
A native of Wamena, John Pigai joined PSBS Biak from Persipura Jayapura at the start of the season. Despite his modest height of 173 cm, the 25-year-old quickly became the team’s main goalkeeper, proving to be a reliable force on the field.
As of week 27, Pigai ranks among the top five goalkeepers in the league for most saves. Over the course of 25 appearances from 27 matches, he conceded 30 goals and recorded seven clean sheets, accumulating a total of 74 saves. His remarkable consistency has solidified his reputation as one of the league's top goalkeepers, competing with foreign players from established teams.
Pigai’s solid presence between the posts has been a major factor in PSBS Biak’s success, helping the team, known as the Pacific Storm, maintain a position in the top half of the table with 37 points from 10 wins, seven draws, and ten losses. The team is currently on a positive streak, having won their last two matches against Bali United FC (2-0) and Borneo FC Samarinda (1-0).
