Chelsea
Enzo Maresca will certainly prioritise the Premier League run over the UEFA Europa Conference League ahead of the weekend, as he will go back to usual settings when it comes to his team selection. There are no fresh injury concerns apart from the ones that are set to remain absent such as Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia.
Maresca will bring on those players rested for midweek, with the midfield pair Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez certain to start. Cole Palmer was subbed off at half-time after another abject display, but he will retain his place in the No.10 role for Chelsea.
Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill are expected to return in the defensive third, with Reece James likely to start at right-back with Marc Cucurella on the other flank. Robert Sanchez will replace Filip Jorgensen in goal, thus asserting his status as Maresca’s No.1 choice.
Noni Madueke will start on the right wing after his brace in midweek, while Jadon Sancho should keep his place on the left. Nicolas Jackson should replace Christopher Nkunku in the No.9 role after another disappointing outing from the Frenchman, who also missed from the spot in midweek.
Ipswich Town
Conor Townsend was an injury casualty in the defeat to Wolves, with the defender unlikely to make the trip to Stamford Bridge. Leif Davis will be expected to replace the injured defender at left-back. There are further concerns with injuries as keeper Arijanet Muric, Chiedozie Obgene, Wes Burns and Sammie Szmodics are absent from proceedings.
There are doubts over Omari Hutchinson’s availability, as he closes in on a return from a thigh injury. If fit, he might make the bench at best. Kieran McKenna will have to rely on the available options at his disposal, as Dara O’Shea and Cameron Burgess will feature at the heart of the defence, while Axel Tuanzebe takes up the right-back role.
Samy Morsy and Jens Cajuste are the likely choices in central defence, with Nathan Broadhead set to play the advanced role. Ben Johnson and Julio Enciso are set to support striker Liam Delap in the front three for Ipswich Town.
Chelsea possible starting lineup:
Sanchez; Gusto, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Madueke, Palmer, Neto; Jackson
Ipswich Town possible starting lineup:
Palmer; Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Johnson, Broadhead, Enciso; Delap
Chelsea vs Ipswich Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
While Chelsea's lengthy Premier League heritage and recent form will make them big favourites here, it's worth noting that Ipswich did defeat the Blues in December. The victory counts as one of only four secured by the Tractor Boys this season.
While Chelsea's last league game was a disappointing 0-0 draw with Brentford, they've won three of their last five and have only suffered a single defeat during that period. More to the point, they've only conceded one goal in those five matches.
Ipswich defeated Bournemouth in the first week of April in an upset, giving them some hope of survival. However, a loss to relegation rivals Wolves - who scored a late winner - has now left Kieran McKenna's side needing a miracle to retain their Premier League status.
Ipswich will be fresher than Chelsea coming into this match. Enzo Maresca's side won 0-3 away at Legia Warsaw in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League quarter-final tie on Thursday. However, plenty of rotation was used, meaning this may not hamper them coming into this game.
Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has 14 goals and seven assists to his name this season, making him the side's most dangerous player. However, he has only been involved in a single goal since January 14, producing an assist for Chelsea's winner against Tottenham last week.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Ipswich Town
Still in the heat of the race for a Champions League spot, Chelsea will be desperate to put Ipswich to the sword at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The Tractor Boys are beginning to prepare for the Championship in the back of their minds and should be no match for the Blues in West London.
