Liga 2 2025-26 Set to Start in August, With Break During SEA Games

PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) has announced the schedule for the 2025-26 Liga 2 season, which will kick off in August, following a similar timeline to Liga 1. The competition will take a break during the 2025 SEA Games, from December 7 to 19, to accommodate the Indonesian national teams' participation.
Even though the 2024-25 season is still ongoing, LIB has already prepared plans for the upcoming season, including aligning the schedule with the SEA Games. Discussions with the Indonesian national team's new coaching staff, including Patrick Kluivert and Gerald Vanenburg, helped synchronize these plans.
In addition, Liga 2 for the 2025-26 season will have fewer teams, with 20 clubs participating compared to 26 in the current season. The competition will feature a mix of teams, with 14 returning from the 2024-25 season and six promoted from lower leagues, including three from Liga Nusantara.
The Elite Pro Academy (EPA) program will also be implemented for Liga 2 teams, following its introduction in Liga 1 in recent years, with categories for U-16, U-18, and U-20 age groups.
