Asnawi and Ferarri Join ASEAN All Stars Squad for Clash Against Manchester United
Indonesian footballers AsnawiMangkualam and Muhammad Ferarri have been selected to represent the ASEAN All Stars in a high-profile friendly match against Manchester United. The game is scheduled to take place on May 28, 2025, at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This opportunity offers both players a major platform, especially for Asnawi, who may once again face Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho, following their previous encounter during Indonesia's match against Argentina in 2023.
The ASEAN All Stars squad consists of top talents from the 12 member nations of the ASEAN Football Federation. The team is currently coached by Vietnam's national team manager, Kim Sang-sik, with the majority of selected players so far coming from Vietnam. In addition to Asnawi and Ferarri, notable names such as Nguyen Quang Hai and Joao Pedro have also been confirmed, while big-name players from Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia are still pending announcement.
There has been debate surrounding who should captain the ASEAN All Stars. Media in Vietnam and Malaysia have suggested Jay Idzes, an Indonesian player currently with Serie A club Venezia, as a strong candidate due to his leadership experience in Europe. However, many Indonesian fans prefer Idzes to focus solely on preparing for Indonesia's critical World Cup qualifiers in June, where the team faces tough matches against China and Japan to keep their 2026 World Cup hopes alive.
