Stefano Cugurra's Legacy in Liga 1: A Career of Triumphs and Milestones
Stefano Cugurra, known as Teco, has officially concluded his successful journey with Bali United FC in the 2024-25 Liga 1 season. Teco’s tenure in Indonesian football has been marked by numerous accomplishments, including guiding both Persija Jakarta and Bali United to league titles. His remarkable career, which began in 2017 with Persija, includes two Liga 1 championships with Bali United in 2019 and 2021-22, as well as a major trophy with Persija in 2018. His ability to lead different clubs to success made him a standout figure in Indonesian football.
During his time with Bali United, which began in 2019, Teco coached the team through 188 matches, securing 97 wins, 41 draws, and 50 losses. His leadership helped the club achieve significant success, including two consecutive Liga 1 titles. After his departure from Bali United, he made it clear that he felt his job was complete, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to manage the team and confirming that he would depart after the final match of the season against Persebaya Surabaya.
Beyond his domestic triumphs, Teco made history by becoming the first foreign coach to win back-to-back Liga 1 titles with different clubs, a feat that solidified his legacy in Indonesian football. With a career that spanned over 222 matches across two top clubs, his influence on the league is undeniable, and his name will always be remembered for the records he broke and the championships he won.
