Persib Bandung's ACL Journey: From Champions to Play-off Spot for 2025-26 Season

Persib Bandung’s victory in the 2024-25 Liga 1 has earned them a chance to compete in the 2025-26 AFC Champions League (ACL). However, unlike the previous season, when they directly qualified for the group stage, this time, they will first need to play in the ACL play-off round to secure a spot in the group stage. This change is due to Indonesia's lower ranking in the AFC Club Competition Ranking, which is used to determine participation in the Asian club competitions.
The current ranking puts Indonesia in 5th place in the AFC Club Competition Ranking, with 18.155 points, and 5th in Southeast Asia. The ranking will affect the number of spots available for Indonesian teams, and in 2025, only one Indonesian club will have the chance to participate in the ACL play-off. This decision is based on the ranking of May 2024, which also determines the entry for future seasons.
In the 2024 ACL, Persib was unable to make it out of Group F, finishing at the bottom with only one win, two draws, and three losses. The club's performance in the upcoming 2025/2026 season will largely depend on how well they perform in the play-offs and how Indonesia ranks in the AFC’s next cycle.
