PSV Eindhoven Secures Eredivisie Title in Final Match
PSV Eindhoven clinched the Eredivisie title for the 2024-25 season with a 3-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam in the final match of the season on May 18, 2025. Goals from Ivan Perisic, Luuk de Jong, and Malik Tilman secured the win, while Sparta Rotterdam briefly equalized through Gjivai Zechiel. This victory ensured that PSV finished the season top of the league with 79 points from 34 matches, just one point ahead of Ajax Amsterdam. It marked PSV's 26th Eredivisie title and allowed them to defend their crown after winning the league the previous season.
Despite the defeat, Sparta Rotterdam remained in 12th place with 39 points, well clear of the relegation zone. In the match, PSV dominated possession with 69% and fired 25 shots, 11 of which were on target, showcasing their superior play throughout the game. This win not only secured the title for PSV but also confirmed their dominance in Dutch football for a second consecutive year.
Ajax Amsterdam, who won their final match 2-0 against FC Twente, finished second with 78 points, just behind PSV. Goals from Jordan Henderson and Wout Weghorst gave Ajax the victory, but it wasn't enough to overtake PSV in the standings. This marks the third consecutive season without a league title for Ajax, with their last Eredivisie championship coming in the 2021/2023 season.
