Simon Tahamata’s Influence Opens Doors for Three Diaspora Players to Join Indonesia’s National Team
The appointment of Simon Tahamata as Head of Scouting for the Indonesian national team is expected to mark a new era in identifying and recruiting diaspora talent. Tahamata, a Maluku-born legend who had a successful career in Europe with clubs like Ajax and Standard Liège, brings a wealth of experience and a vast network, especially in the Netherlands. His close ties to young players of Indonesian descent could pave the way for fresh talents to represent Indonesia on the international stage.
One promising player is Tristan Gooijer, a 2004-born defender currently playing for PEC Zwolle on loan from Ajax. As a product of the Ajax academy, Tristan is known for his composure and ability to initiate attacks from the backline. With his Indonesian heritage through his mother and Tahamata’s connections at Ajax, there is potential for a more personal and direct communication channel to persuade him to wear the Garuda jersey.
Pascal Struijk is another notable player who could be influenced by Tahamata’s presence. Currently at Leeds United, Struijk previously spent time in Ajax’s youth setup and has been linked with the Indonesian national team for some time.
