New Era at Bali United: Johnny Jansen Takes the Helm as Head Coach

Bali United has officially appointed Johnny Jansen as their new head coach, succeeding Stefano “Teco” Cugurra, who led the team for six years. The 50-year-old Dutch coach brings extensive experience, holding a UEFA Pro License and having last managed PEC Zwolle in the Netherlands’ top division, Eredivisie. The club’s management expresses confidence that Jansen’s diverse background, ranging from youth teams to senior squads, will help Bali United return to top-tier competition.

Jansen’s coaching journey began in the academy ranks of SC Heerenveen, where he developed young talents before stepping up to lead the senior team from 2019 to early 2022. His career also includes a stint in Asia with Safa Sporting Club in Lebanon, adding international exposure to his resume. Returning to the Netherlands, he took charge of PEC Zwolle in mid-2023, overseeing 69 matches before his contract ended this season. His time at Zwolle was notable for nurturing Indonesian international Eliano Reijnders, whom he played in 54 games.

Throughout his career, Jansen has worked alongside prominent Dutch footballers, including Siem de Jong, Sven Botman, and Jean Paul van Hecke, which has enriched his tactical and developmental approach. His track record demonstrates a strong ability to cultivate young talent while managing senior teams effectively. Bali United's management believes that his blend of experience and fresh tactical ideas will invigorate the team’s strategy and performance.

The club anticipates that Jansen’s leadership will bring a progressive mindset to the squad, focusing on long-term growth and competitive success.
