6th Jun. Saudi Arabia’s Victory Shakes Up Group C Standings as Indonesia Drops in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Saudi Arabia secured a vital 2-0 away win against Bahrain, causing a significant shift in the Group C standings of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers. The Green Falcons’ goals came in the first and late second halves, helping them climb back up to third place with 13 points. This victory keeps Saudi Arabia in contention for automatic qualification, as they trail second-placed Australia by just three points with one match remaining. Their upcoming home clash against Australia will be decisive for their qualification hopes.
Meanwhile, Indonesia, who had previously celebrated a narrow 1-0 win over China thanks to a well-executed penalty just before halftime, dropped to fourth place in the group after Saudi Arabia’s win. Despite the fall in rankings, Indonesia’s 12 points guarantee their advancement to the next round of qualification, as the teams below them, Bahrain and China, are mathematically unable to catch up with only one match left.
Bahrain and China remain at the bottom of the group with six points each and no chance of progressing further. Bahrain’s home loss to Saudi Arabia and China’s defeat to Indonesia confirmed their exit from the qualification race. The final round will see important clashes, especially between Saudi Arabia and Australia, as the top spots are still highly contested.
The current Group C table shows Japan comfortably leading with 20 points, followed by Australia in second with 16. Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Bahrain, and China fill the remaining positions, with only the top four advancing. The upcoming fixtures promise high tension as teams fight for the remaining qualification spots ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
