Madura United Targets New Foreign Defender Ahead of Super League Kickoff

As the 2025-26 BRI Super League season approaches, Madura United is actively seeking a new foreign center-back to strengthen their defense. The club’s president, Achsanul Qosasi, confirmed that this move comes at the request of head coach Angel Alfredo Vera, who identified the need for reinforcement following the team's pre-season training and match evaluations.
During their training camp in Yogyakarta, Madura United played three friendly matches, conceding three goals and securing only one clean sheet. This defensive performance raised concerns, especially considering the tactical flexibility the team aims to implement, shifting between a 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formation. Coach Vera emphasized the importance of a solid backline to support this tactical shift.
In response, Achsanul instructed the team manager, Umar A. Wachdin, to find a suitable foreign defender who fits the team’s system and meets the coach’s requirements. The club is moving swiftly to identify and propose a candidate in time for registration ahead of the new season's opening match.
Currently, Madura United already has two experienced foreign defenders, Pedro Monteiro from Portugal and Roger Bonet from Spain, both of whom have played in the Indonesian league. However, the club believes that bringing in one more defender with international experience will significantly improve their defensive depth before they face Persis Solo in their opening match on August 9 at Ratu Pamelingan Stadium.
