Chelsea Rejects £149M Bid from Man City, Values Cole Palmer at World-Record Price

Chelsea has turned down a staggering £149 million offer from Manchester City for Cole Palmer, rejecting what would have been a record-breaking domestic transfer in England. The club instead set an astronomical price tag of £250 million for the 23-year-old, which would surpass Neymar’s world-record move in 2017. Chelsea’s decision reflects their strong stance on keeping Palmer, who has become central to their long-term project.
Since his £45 million move from City in 2023, Palmer has rapidly evolved into one of the Premier League’s top performers. In his first season at Stamford Bridge, he tallied 27 goals and 15 assists across all competitions and earned accolades as both the PFA and Premier League Young Player of the Season. His second season was similarly impressive, with key contributions that led Chelsea to a top-four finish and a Conference League title.
Palmer’s stellar performances extended to the global stage during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s 3-0 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in the final, scoring twice and providing an assist. His display earned him the Player of the Tournament award, further boosting his value and reputation as one of Europe’s elite young talents.
Despite Manchester City’s eagerness to bring their academy graduate back, the move appears unlikely. Palmer remains under contract with Chelsea until 2033 and is a cornerstone of Enzo Maresca’s rebuild. With City already boasting a packed attacking lineup, and Chelsea firm on their valuation, Palmer’s return to the Etihad seems improbable. Chelsea has made it clear that he is not for sale—at least not for a conventional price.
