Persija Secures Brazilian Winger Maxwell Souza in Multi-Billion Rupiah Transfer

Persija Jakarta has officially signed Brazilian winger Maxwell Souza in a significant transfer move that reportedly cost the club around Rp 5 billion. The 30-year-old attacker, who was playing for Clube do Remo in Brazil’s Serie B, still had a valid contract until November 2025. As a result, Persija had to activate his release clause to finalize the deal.
Maxwell brings with him a decade of professional experience, having started his career in Brazil with CRB. He also had a stint in Europe, playing for Swedish club Kalmar FF in 2020. His versatility and international exposure are expected to strengthen Persija’s attacking options as the team prepares for the 2025-26 season.
This transfer continues Persija's recent trend of building a Brazilian-influenced squad. With Maxwell’s arrival, the club now has eight Brazilian players out of a total of nine foreign signings. This growing South American core reflects the club’s ambition to blend flair and technical skill into its playing style.
Maxwell joins fellow Brazilian Thales Lira, who was recently signed on loan from Arema FC with an option to buy—mirroring the acquisition model used for Gustavo Almeida. These strategic moves indicate Persija’s commitment to assembling a competitive team with a strong international presence to meet both domestic and regional challenges.
