Persija to Sign New Foreign Player After Ryo Matsumura’s Injury
Persija Jakarta received a setback ahead of the 2025/2026 Super League season as key player Ryo Matsumura suffered a serious hamstring injury during training. The Japanese midfielder requires surgery and faces a recovery period of four to six months, which means he will miss most of the first half of the season. The club’s medical team is closely monitoring his rehabilitation, aiming to speed up his return.
In response to Matsumura’s long absence, Persija’s management and coaching staff are moving quickly to reinforce their squad. They plan to bring in a new foreign signing to maintain strength in the attacking line, signaling the team’s strong ambition to compete for the championship this season. An official announcement about the new player is expected soon.
The team doctor explained that Matsumura’s injury resulted from a collision during practice, necessitating immediate surgery scheduled for early August. Meanwhile, Matsumura is undergoing prehabilitation exercises to prepare his body ahead of the operation and potentially shorten his recovery timeline.
At the same time, the medical staff is working hard on recovering striker Gustavo Almeida, who scored 18 goals in the previous Liga 1 season. Almeida is expected to return to full fitness and be available for selection within one to two weeks, giving Persija a boost upfront despite Matsumura’s absence.
