Jay Idzes on the Verge of Joining Sassuolo After Three SerieA Clubs Step Back

Jay Idzes, the captain of the Indonesian national team and a central defender for Venezia, is reportedly close to a move to Sassuolo following the withdrawal of interest from three other Serie A clubs. Udinese, Torino, and Genoa, who had initially shown interest in Idzes, stepped aside after the asking price set by Venezia was deemed too high. The Italian club valued Idzes between 8 to 10 million euros, which led the three teams to pursue alternative targets.
Udinese secured a new player from Empoli, Torino focused on signing Swiss defender AureleAmenda, and Genoa opted for a loan deal with Leo SkiriOstigard from Rennes. With these moves, the path is now clearer for Sassuolo to strengthen their defense by acquiring Idzes. Negotiations between Venezia and Sassuolo reportedly continued intensely over several hours, as both sides aimed to reach a favorable agreement.
Interestingly, Sassuolo is not only targeting Idzes but also has its eye on another Venezia defender, Fali Cande from Guinea Bissau. This dual interest indicates Sassuolo’s serious intent to bolster their defensive lineup. Should the price for Idzes remain a hurdle, Sassuolo may shift their focus to Cande as a viable alternative.
Idzes is currently contracted with Venezia until 2027, and with the club’s recent relegation to Serie B, they are eager to sell their valuable asset to raise funds. The revenue from Idzes’ transfer is expected to help Venezia rebuild their squad for the challenges ahead in the lower division.
