Villarreal Signs Thomas Partey Amid Ongoing Legal Case in England
Villarreal has officially signed Thomas Partey shortly after he was granted conditional bail in connection with a serious legal case in London. The 32-year-old Ghanaian midfielder, now a free agent after his contract with Arsenal ended in June, faces multiple allegations including sexual assault and harassment. These accusations stem from incidents reportedly occurring during his time at Arsenal between 2021 and 2022.
As part of his bail conditions, Partey must avoid contact with the alleged victims and notify authorities about any changes in his residence or international travel plans. Villarreal acknowledged the ongoing legal proceedings and confirmed the club’s awareness of the situation. The club emphasized its respect for the presumption of innocence and stated it would await the judicial process to determine the facts.
Villarreal also reaffirmed its strong stance against violence, discrimination, and any behavior that undermines human dignity. The club highlighted its commitment to respect and diversity, making it clear that these values remain central despite the controversy surrounding their new signing.
Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atlético Madrid for a £45 million transfer fee and made 130 Premier League appearances over five seasons. He was a regular starter last season as Arsenal finished second in the league. Partey is expected to appear in court again in London in early September as the case continues to unfold.
