Rangers Sack Russell Martin After Poor Run Leaves Club Struggling in Premiership

Rangers have officially parted ways with head coach Russell Martin following a disappointing 1–1 draw against Falkirk that left the club near the bottom of the William Hill Premiership table. The decision comes just four months after his appointment, which followed the dismissal of Philippe Clement earlier in the year. During his short tenure, Martin managed only one league win in seven matches, and tensions with supporters reached a breaking point after the latest setback.

The club released a statement confirming the dismissal, acknowledging that while managerial transitions take time, recent results had fallen far below expectations. Fan frustration had been growing steadily, with protests against Martin even following their previous victory over Livingston. The situation escalated after the Falkirk match, where he required a police escort from the stadium amid loud chants from angry supporters.

On the pitch, Rangers’ performances have been inconsistent and uninspiring. The team now sits eighth in the Premiership, 11 points behind league leaders Hearts. A sluggish attack and defensive lapses have cost them crucial points, and the club’s European campaign has also been disappointing, with back-to-back defeats in the Europa League after missing out on Champions League qualification.

Martin’s tenure ends with a record of just five wins from 17 matches in all competitions, marking a turbulent and short-lived spell in charge. The former Swansea and Southampton manager struggled to implement his tactical ideas and gain the trust of the squad, leaving Rangers’ board with little choice but to act. The club will now begin the search for a new manager to steady the team and revive their domestic and European ambitions.
