Favorable Group Draw for Indonesia U-22 at the 2025 SEA Games Football Tournament

The group draw for the 2025 SEA Games football competition has been completed, placing Indonesia’s U-22 national team in a promising position. As defending champions from the 2023 edition, Indonesia enters the tournament with high expectations and renewed confidence. The football event will take place in Thailand between November and December 2025, with ten nations divided into three groups under a new format.
This year’s draw features one group of four teams and two groups of three. Only the group winners will earn direct qualification to the semifinals, while the best second-placed team across all groups will claim the final spot. Indonesia has been placed in Group C, the only four-team group, alongside Myanmar, Singapore, and the Philippines. Compared to the other groups, Group C is seen as less daunting, offering Indonesia a realistic path to the knockout stage.
Notably, several of Indonesia’s strongest regional rivals—Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia—have been drawn into Groups A and B. Group A includes Thailand, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, while Group B features Vietnam, Malaysia, and Laos. The separation of major contenders reduces early pressure on Indonesia, allowing them to focus on consistent performances in the group phase.
With expectations high and the path seemingly favorable, Indonesia's U-22 squad holds a strong opportunity to progress deep into the tournament. Their main challenge will be maintaining focus and avoiding complacency against teams eager to upset the defending champions. If they navigate the group successfully, they could once again emerge as strong contenders for the gold medal.
