Shin Tae-yong Emerges as a Strong Contender for Thailand National Team Coach

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) is moving swiftly to find a new head coach after parting ways with Masatada Ishii. Reports from Thai media indicate that seven candidates are being considered, including former Indonesia national team coach Shin Tae-yong. His inclusion has drawn attention, given his proven experience and success in Southeast Asian football.
Among the other notable candidates is Park Hang-seo, another South Korean coach with a strong track record in the region after leading Vietnam to several achievements. FAT is also considering Anthony Hudson, the current Technical Director of the association, who brings international coaching experience from the United States and the Middle East. These names reflect FAT’s interest in combining tactical expertise with regional familiarity.
Three local coaches have also made the shortlist: Thai football legend Kiatisuk Senamuang, Prachuap FC’s Sasom Pobprasert, and Bangkok United’s Totchtawan Sripan. Another potential option is Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, who currently manages Thailand’s U-23 squad. FAT reportedly seeks a balance between international experience and a deep understanding of local football culture.
While FAT officials are still reviewing the candidates, internal discussions suggest differing preferences. Vice President Dr. Charnwit Pholchivin personally views Anthony Hudson as a strong fit due to his familiarity with Thai football. Meanwhile, Shin Tae-yong remains a sought-after figure, with growing calls for his return to Indonesia’s national team after recently leaving Ulsan HD. Thailand’s next fixtures include a friendly against Singapore on November 13, followed by an Asian Cup qualifier against Sri Lanka five days later.
