Les Reed’s 40-day reign at Charlton Athletic in 2006 remains one of the shortest in league history. Promoted from assistant to head coach after Iain Dowie’s dismissal, he oversaw only seven games, losing five, before Alan Pardew took over. Fast forward to recent years, and Ange Postecoglou’s brief 39-day spell at Nottingham Forest added another chapter to this list. At the top of this list is Sam Allardyce, who holds the record for the shortest managerial stint in Premier League history. Appointed by Leeds United in May 2023 to prevent relegation, he managed only four matches—three losses and a draw—before the team’s drop was confirmed. His one-month tenure epitomized the unforgiving nature of Premier League management, where reputations and experience often mean little when results don’t follow.
