Indonesia’s New National Team Coach Could Debut in March 2026 FIFA Matchday

The search for Indonesia’s next national team coach remains ongoing, with no concrete updates from PSSI. Although the responsibility of finding a new coach has been given to Technical Director Alexander Zwiers and BTN Chairman Sumardji, the federation is still taking its time before making any decisions. PSSI Executive Committee member Arya Sinulingga confirmed that there has been no new information from the Secretary General, emphasizing that the organization prefers a careful approach rather than rushing the appointment.

The timeline for appointing the new coach is likely to coincide with the next FIFA Matchday in March 2026. For the November 2025 international window, PSSI has decided not to schedule matches for the senior national team. Instead, the U-22 squad, under coach Indra Sjafri, will utilize the period for preparation ahead of the 2025 SEA Games. The opponents for the U-22 team’s friendlies, however, have yet to be determined.

Arya also highlighted that the federation is currently prioritizing internal issues, particularly addressing cases of bullying within the national team setup. The controversy, which gained traction on social media, has negatively affected PSSI’s reputation internationally, even drawing attention from the AFC. In response, the organization is urging Indonesian supporters to maintain civility online to help restore its image.

PSSI believes that major decisions, such as appointing a new head coach, should only be made when the atmosphere is calm and stable. Arya explained that the federation intends to avoid making emotional choices during moments of tension or controversy. Once the situation within the national football environment improves, PSSI will proceed thoughtfully with the selection of Indonesia’s next coach.
