Borussia Monchengladbach Targets Five Players for January Sales Amid Bundesliga Struggles

Borussia Monchengladbach is preparing for significant changes in the upcoming January 2026 transfer window, planning to sell up to five players. The club intends to reinvest the proceeds into new signings to strengthen the squad and address ongoing struggles in the Bundesliga. This move comes as the management seeks to reverse a disappointing start to the season and avoid relegation.
Currently, Gladbach sits at the bottom of the Bundesliga standings with just three points from eight matches, remaining the only team yet to secure a win. The club believes that a roster shake-up is necessary to improve performance and stabilize results in the second half of the season.
The players most likely to be sold include goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, Joe Scally, Luca Netz, Marvin Friedrich, and Grant-Leon Ranos. Kevin Diks, the Indonesian defender, is expected to stay due to his critical role in the team’s defensive setup. Omlin’s high salary and frequent injuries have made him a prime candidate for departure.
Other departures are driven by tactical and contract considerations. Joe Scally has not fit into the coach’s plans and is seen as underdeveloped, while Luca Netz and Marvin Friedrich are being sold to secure transfer fees instead of losing them for free next summer. Grant-Leon Ranos is also set to leave as the club aims to refresh its defensive options.
