Indonesia National Team Considers Five New Coaching Candidates: Who’s in the Running?

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has begun the search for a new head coach following the end of Patrick Kluivert’s tenure. Chairman Erick Thohir revealed that there are currently five main candidates under consideration, hailing from three to four different countries. The selection process is ongoing and will be carefully finalized to ensure the right choice.
Erick Thohir emphasized that the association is approaching the decision cautiously and does not want to rush. Each candidate will undergo a thorough evaluation, and consultations involve not only PSSI but also relevant government stakeholders. This collaborative approach is intended to ensure that the final appointment aligns with both sporting and organizational objectives.
Timing is also a key consideration, as several of the candidates are still under contract with other clubs or federations, meaning not all may be immediately available. PSSI aims to explore these possibilities while preparing for upcoming FIFA Matchdays in 2025, with major competitions scheduled for March, June, September, October, and November.
Reflecting on previous coach selections, Thohir noted that the process has historically involved a larger pool of candidates, which is gradually narrowed down. Currently, the pool has been reduced to five names, though none are guaranteed to accept the role. Patience and careful deliberation remain essential as the search for Indonesia’s next national team coach continues.
