Real Madrid Reaches Verbal Agreement to Sign Dayot Upamecano Next Summer

The French center-back, whose contract with Bayern runs until June 2026, appears set to leave Germany despite Bayern’s efforts to extend his stay. The signing of Upamecano addresses potential departures in Madrid’s backline, particularly with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger’s contracts also set to expire in 2026. His playing style fits the tactical approach envisioned under Xabi Alonso, and he could join without a transfer fee. Additionally, his connections with fellow French teammates Kylian Mbappe and Aurelian Tchouameni are expected to help him settle quickly at the club.

The pursuit of Upamecano also impacts other transfer targets, with Real Madrid stepping away from efforts to sign Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, who will become a free agent next summer.

Similarly, Madrid has withdrawn interest in Marc Guehi due to financial demands, leaving the door open for other clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea to make moves for the player.
