FIFA Issues Fines to PSSI, Thom Haye, and Shayne Pattynama After Incident in Indonesia vs Iraq Match

FIFA has handed disciplinary penalties to PSSI as well as Indonesian national team players Thom Haye and Shayne Pattynama following events that occurred during the World Cup 2026 Qualifier against Iraq. The incident drew FIFA’s attention due to behavior that was deemed unsportsmanlike during the match, leading to formal review and subsequent sanctions.
Both Thom Haye and Shayne Pattynama were found responsible for actions interpreted as disrespectful toward match officials. As a result, each player received a monetary fine and is barred from participating in four upcoming international matches listed in the FIFA calendar. This suspension affects Indonesia’s squad depth in future competitive fixtures.
The financial penalty imposed on the two players amounts to 5,000 CHF each, which converts to roughly 103 million rupiah. Their absence in upcoming fixtures could influence Indonesia’s tactical planning, especially in matches where midfield control and defensive rotation are critical.
Meanwhile, PSSI received a significantly larger fine for crowd-related behavior during the same match. The organization was penalized 50,000 CHF, approximately one billion rupiah, due to objects thrown onto the field by spectators. This highlights ongoing concerns about supporter conduct and the broader responsibility of the federation to ensure a controlled match environment.
