Ten Hag Rejects Ajax Return, Citing Lack of 'Foundation for Success'

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has officially ruled himself out of the running to replace the recently sacked John Heitinga at Ajax, according to multiple Dutch media outlets including De Telegraaf. Ten Hag reportedly believes the club currently lacks the necessary foundation for a successful partnership.
Following his departure from Manchester United, Ten Hag had been linked with several coaching vacancies, including the Wolverhampton Wanderers job (which ultimately went to Rob Edwards). The possibility of returning to his former club, Ajax, intensified after the Dutch giants dismissed Heitinga less than six months into his tenure.
Dutch outlets NOS and AD report that the 55-year-old coach has now declined the opportunity. It is understood that Ten Hag held informal talks with Technical Director Alex Kroes but expressed serious concern over the current managerial instability at the club.
Compounding the issues, Technical Director Kroes himself has offered to resign following Heitinga’s dismissal, further highlighting the deep-seated management uncertainty at Ajax.
With the club facing challenges both on and off the pitch—including a 1-2 loss under interim manager Fred Grim last weekend—Ajax must now turn its attention to other candidates for the permanent role.
