Timo Werner Considering MLS Move to Revive His Career

Timo Werner is reportedly assessing the possibility of a transfer to Major League Soccer in the winter of 2026, marking a potential new chapter after years of fluctuating form. Discussions between his representatives and several MLS clubs have already taken place, signaling that interest in the German forward is genuine. A move to the United States would place him alongside other former Bundesliga stars who have recently chosen MLS as their next destination.
Werner’s career took a sharp turn after his high-profile move from RB Leipzig to Chelsea in 2020. Despite his prolific record in Germany, he struggled to reproduce the same sharpness in the Premier League. Although he returned to Leipzig in 2022 in hopes of rediscovering his rhythm, the consistency that once defined him remained elusive. His loan spell at Tottenham from early 2024 to mid-2025 also failed to provide the breakthrough he needed.
The challenges continued into the 2025-26 season, with Werner featuring for only a minute in the Bundesliga so far. His limited involvement suggests he no longer fits into Leipzig’s long-term plans, especially with his contract nearing its final months. The lack of playing time has made his situation increasingly untenable and added urgency to the search for a viable escape route.
With his deal set to expire in summer 2026, a January switch to MLS is emerging as a realistic way for Werner to rebuild his reputation. The American league could offer both consistent minutes and a fresh environment, giving him the space to revive the qualities that once made him one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards.
