Crystal Palace Opens Talks to Extend Jean-Philippe Mateta’s Contract

Crystal Palace has initiated discussions with striker Jean-Philippe Mateta regarding a contract extension at Selhurst Park. Since joining the club from Mainz 05 in 2021, Mateta struggled initially but gradually established himself as a key player under manager Oliver Glasner. His improvement has been evident in recent seasons, showcasing consistency and goal-scoring ability for the team.
Mateta has amassed 54 goals in 171 appearances across all competitions for Palace, including 17 goals during the 2024-25 season, a campaign highlighted by an FA Cup triumph and qualification for European competition. This season alone, he has netted eight goals in 19 appearances, making him one of the top scorers in the Premier League alongside players like Erling Haaland.
His strong performances at the club level have earned him a call-up to the French national team, where he has already scored twice in three appearances, including a goal on his debut. Most recently, he contributed to France’s 3-1 away victory over Azerbaijan, further boosting his international profile.
Despite being under contract until 2027, Mateta has hinted at ambitions to compete in the Champions League, fueling speculation about a potential departure. Nevertheless, Crystal Palace is eager to keep their top striker, with reports indicating that contract extension talks are actively underway to secure his future at Selhurst Park.
