The Times: Casemiro Expected to Depart Next Summer, Manchester United Eyeing Forest Midfielder Anderson

Manchester United is reportedly monitoring Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson closely, listing the England international as a potential signing for next summer, according to The Times.
Since joining Nottingham Forest from Newcastle in the summer of 2024, the 23-year-old Anderson has emerged as one of the Premier League's top young talents. His form has earned him five starts in England's last six national team fixtures, positioning him as a potential regular starter for the 2026 World Cup.
Anderson’s value has soared dramatically; while Forest paid 35$ million for him, his asking price could now reach 100$ million. Newcastle, who were forced to sell him due to Profit and Sustainability Rules, are interested in re-signing him, and Liverpool also maintains an interest.
Manchester United is unlikely to bid for Anderson in January, as Forest would dismiss any offers. However, United needs to plan for a major midfield gap next summer, as Casemiro is widely expected to leave Old Trafford. Although the Brazilian’s form has improved, he turns 34 in February and earns over 18$ million annually, making it improbable the club will activate his one-year extension option. Saudi clubs are also prepared to offer him lucrative contracts.
The move for a new midfielder is crucial given the likely departure of Casemiro. Anderson, whose grandfather played for Newcastle, could face tough competition from players like Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, another target United previously balked at due to his 100$ million valuation. United’s immediate transfer activity will be minimal in January despite losing several players to the Africa Cup of Nations.
