Indonesia’s Coaching Hunt Narrows as Four Leading Candidates Come Into Focus
The search for Indonesia’s next national team coach has intensified after Patrick Kluivert’s departure in mid-October 2025. PSSI has been quietly approaching several names, and four of the five candidates are now emerging from international media reports. Initial speculation pointed to familiar figures from Liga 1, but the pool has since broadened to coaches with global experience and recent success on the international stage.

One of the earliest names to surface was Timur Kapadze, who recently led Uzbekistan to the 2026 World Cup before stepping away from contract renewal talks. Heimir Hallgrimsson soon followed, with the Icelandic coach currently in charge of Ireland and yet to receive an extension. The list grew with Jesús Casas, a Spanish tactician previously in charge of Iraq, whose name was pushed into the spotlight by media sources in the Middle East.

PSSI officials have remained guarded throughout the process, confirming only that five names are under consideration without disclosing identities due to the coaches’ ongoing commitments. The momentum grew further when reports from Europe linked Giovanni van Bronckhorst to PSSI’s shortlist, adding another high-profile candidate to the mix. Despite the rising speculation, PSSI leadership continues to urge patience as they evaluate each option carefully.

The federation has promised additional clarity soon, with plans to hold a press conference this week to share updates on the coaching search. For now, one name on the five-man list remains completely undisclosed, leaving room for further surprises as Indonesia edges closer to appointing its next national team manager.
