Ivar Jenner’s Uncertain Utrecht Future Sparks Strong Interest from Persija Jakarta

Ivar Jenner has entered a decisive stage in his career after confirming that he will not extend his contract with FC Utrecht beyond June 2026. The young midfielder, who shares Dutch and Indonesian heritage, has fueled speculation about a possible move to Indonesia, with Persija Jakarta emerging as the club most closely linked to him. His situation at Utrecht has grown increasingly challenging, making a fresh opportunity elsewhere more appealing.

This season has been particularly difficult for him, as he has seen his playing time with Jong Utrecht drop significantly compared to the previous year. Limited starts and fewer minutes have reduced his chances of breaking into the first team, pushing him to consider a new direction. Meanwhile, Persija has been monitoring his situation, especially as the club looks to reinforce its midfield options for the ongoing campaign.

Persija’s management has expressed openness to bringing him in, provided the move aligns with the team’s needs and financial plans. If he joins, he would become the club’s sixth diaspora player, adding to an already strong group of Indonesian talents raised abroad. His recent performances with the national U-22 team have further strengthened the belief that he could bring valuable influence both at club and international levels.

At the national stage, Jenner has gained the confidence of the U-22 coach, who sees him as an important piece ahead of the 2025 SEA Games. However, because the tournament is not part of the official FIFA calendar, Utrecht is not obligated to release him. His coach’s supportive environment and the federation’s ongoing efforts to negotiate his availability reflect his rising importance, both for the competition and for Indonesia’s long-term plans.
