Flick Explains Yamal Substitution: He Had a Yellow Card; "I Totally Understand" His Frustration

Following Barcelona's 2-1 comeback victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, coach Hansi Flick addressed the substitution of Lamine Yamal late in the second half, which visibly displeased the young winger.
Flick explained his tactical reasoning, stating that Yamal was taken off in the final minutes primarily because "he had already received a yellow card," and it was late in the game. The coach expressed his understanding of the player's reaction: "If he was a little bit angry, I totally understand, and I like that. I was a player too, and it is completely acceptable, no problem at all."
The manager also praised Jules Koundé for scoring, highlighting the importance of the defender’s talent and mindset in the victory. While Flick was pleased with the team's ability to complete a comeback, he suggested it would be better for the team to avoid trailing in the first place, noting: "It's great to reverse the game, but sometimes it would be better to have a smooth start and score first. That's football."
