Barcelona Eyes Loan Move for Former Star Joao Cancelo

Barcelona is reportedly exploring options to reinforce their defense with a loan deal, targeting former player Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese right-back previously spent the 2023-24 season on loan at the club from Manchester City and left a strong impression during his time in Catalonia.
After his loan spell, Cancelo moved to Al-Hilal for €25 million following failed negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester City. His agent, Jorge Mendes, maintains close ties with the club, giving Barcelona a stronger negotiating position should they pursue another move for the 31-year-old.
Recent reports indicate that Barcelona has inquired about the possibility of a January loan for Cancelo. The player is keen to leave Saudi Arabia and return to European football, expressing a positive attitude toward his previous stint at Barcelona and a desire to come back.
Competition for Cancelo’s services is already emerging, with Inter reportedly taking the lead in loan negotiations and Juventus also showing interest. Barcelona will need to act quickly to secure a deal, as other clubs are already discussing terms and potential structures for the move.
Cancelo had a mixed spell at Barcelona, showcasing strong attacking contributions with four goals and five assists in 42 appearances, including key performances against Porto and Atletico Madrid. However, defensive lapses against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid contributed to setbacks for the club, highlighting the risks and rewards associated with his potential return.
