Indonesia’s Rising Stars Earn Places in Asia’s Best XI of 2025

Despite a challenging year for the Indonesian national team, individual players managed to shine on the continental stage. In 2025, Indonesia failed to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, raising questions about the team’s overall progress. However, strong and consistent performances at club level helped several Indonesian players gain wider recognition across Asia.
This recognition came in the form of Asia’s Best XI of 2025, compiled by Goalpost Asia. The selection focused on players who delivered steady performances throughout the year and played key roles for their respective clubs. Competing with many established Asian stars who play in Europe, three Indonesian internationals successfully earned their places in the prestigious lineup.
Calvin Verdonk stood out as one of the selected players after an impressive start with Lille in France. In his first season in Ligue 1, he quickly adapted to the competition and earned regular playing time. His appearances and contribution from the left-back position highlighted his growing importance and underlined his potential to develop further at a high level.
Another notable inclusion was Jay Idzes, who continued to mature with Sassuolo in Italy. After gaining valuable experience earlier in his career, he gradually became a central figure in his team’s defensive setup. His consistent run of appearances demonstrated both reliability and leadership, reinforcing his status as a trusted option in a competitive European league.
The third Indonesian name on the list was goalkeeper Emil Audero, who enjoyed a solid season with Cremonese. His ability to deliver clean sheets and remain composed under pressure reflected his long experience in Italian football. As a dependable presence between the posts, his performances during his loan spell proved decisive and justified his selection among Asia’s elite players of 2025.
